Mindfulness. What exactly is it?

Mindfulness is the practice of intentionally paying attention to the present moment, without judgment, while being aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. It is a way of training your mind to be more present and attentive.

What is meant by being completely present in the moment? That means being fully aware of your surroundings, your thoughts and feelings, and the sensations in your body. This means that you are not judging yourself or anyone else. You are not trying to fix anything or make it better. You are simply observing what is happening right now.

What are the benefits of a more mindful leader?

As an Early Childhood business owner/manager, it is important to create a positive and beneficial environment for your business. Mindfulness can help you achieve this by promoting a calm atmosphere, increasing patience and present-mindedness, and deepening your connection with your team and your families. By incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine, you can provide a more positive and beneficial experience for all those involved with your Early Childhood business.

Mindfulness will help you become more attuned to the needs of the families you serve and create a deeper connection with them increasing their trust in you.

How can mindfulness be incorporated into your daily routine as an Early Childhood business owner/manager?

We are going to dive into 3 mindfulness tips you can start doing today to help you calm that stress.

The 5-Minute Mindfulness Makeover - There are a few ways to incorporate a 5 minute mindfulness makeover into your daily routine.

  • One way is to take a few moments at the beginning or end of the day to sit quietly and focus on your breath. When stressed, our breathing becomes shallow or erratic. Have you ever found yourself holding your breath when you’re angry? Mindful breathing, the simplest and most direct kind of mindfulness exercise there is, lets you counteract this tendency and you can do it anywhere.

  • To help you get started on your very own 5 Minute Mindfulness Makeover we have created a resource to help you. You can find it at the Resource section of this page.

Mindfulness Movement

  • Mindful walking is one of the easiest ways to break away from the chaos for 5 minutes and reset. Walking is second nature to most of us. In fact, it’s what psychologists call an over-learned behavior, which is a behavior or process repeated so many times that it calls for little or no conscious thought. How often have you decided to get a glass of water and walked to the kitchen without once giving any thought to how got between point A and B?

  • Mindful walking seeks to bring the simple act of walking back into the realm of considered behavior.

Guided Meditations

  • For thousands of years, people have used meditation to experience inner quiet and expanded awareness. As an ever-growing body of scientific data shows, meditation has the power to heal our body, calm our mind, and even rewire our brain for greater happiness, creativity, and love.

  • Guided meditation is a simple yet profound practice that helps the body release accumulated stress and return to its natural state of balance and health. You are guided to develop a daily practice that allows you to respond to potentially stressful situations or encounters from a place of calm, centered awareness.

I do not receive any sort of commission for promoting these guided meditations. I think they are that good that I love to share them. You can find them for purchase at www.chopra.com/oprah. The key is to find something you like. You can google 5 minute guided meditations and find plenty!

These three mindfulness exercises are simple, require no special equipment, and you can do them almost anywhere. Just as importantly, all three will help you to reduce your overall stress without forcing you to make a big-time commitment. Go try a little mindful breathing for a few minutes right now and see how much better you feel! Remember that the more calm and present you are the more you will thrive in your life.

I discuss all of this in more depth in the episode above, so make sure to give it a listen.
